Review - Concept Anakin Skywalker Print E-mail
Written by Darth Zirock

Concept Art figures are always a gamble, as there are usually a few good designs that get tossed out, while the best ones are what are used in the films. For REVENGE OF THE SITH, one design for Anakin Skywalker was meant to resemble Luke Skywalker's Jedi Knight costume from RETURN OF THE JEDI. Ultimately, the film used a design that was nearly identical to Anakin's costume from ATTACK OF THE CLONES. This concept art figure uses the ROTJ-style design as its starting point, but keeps to Hayden Christensen's look for ROTS (minus the facial scar). The sculpt is of a sleeker, thinner Anakin, but the neck is too thin, almost feminine. The black, hoodless cloak is more Vaderesque than Jedi. There was a more bulked-up costume design in THE ART OF REVENGE OF THE SITH that might have made a more interesting figure

Obi-Wan Kenobi, former Jedi Master, rescues Luke Skywalker from an attack by Sand People in STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE. It turns out the young moisture farmer was out tracking down a recently purchased astromech droid that has a vital hologram message for the exiled Jedi General. This figure is an all-new sculpt, with a great likeness to the late Sir Alec Guinness. The body sculpt is also a vast improvement over the previous Vintage OTC version, which was too thin. This new sculpt really captures the character

Another Flashback today. This is the 1999 FAO Schwartz "Fambaa with Shield Generator and Gungan Warrior" set. I remember driving down to the San Francisco FAO Schwartz toy store to pick a couple of these up at $75 a pop back when they were released. Personally I think FAO had some really cool exclusives, a bit pricey but there were a upper scaled toy store. New packaged shots have been added to our Photo Gallery.

Hasbro Q&A: June 12, 2009 Print E-mail
Written by Darth Zirock
Saturday, 13 June 2009 17:19

swqaWe've received Hasbro's answers to our latest set of Star Wars Q&A questions. Click through to our forums to read the answers to the following:

1.) I really like how you keep adding a few new cantina aliens to the lineup every year. The accessories that some of them have come with are great too! What I am wondering is if a similar yearly focus on Jabba's Palace aliens could be successful as well, or is there a fear that collectors would not support that kind of a theme as well as they have the cantina denizens? There are still a lot of great palace characters that have yet to be made such as Wam Lufba (Yuzzum), Geezum, Loje Nella and many more.

2.) You have said in the past that if the vintage style cardbacks ever return, they would also be used for prequel and EU figures. Do you think that these will ever become a reality? Have any concepts ever been created of what a vintage style card for a prequel film character would look like? If so, would you be able to share a picture?

3.) I've heard that Malakili is on the drawing board as an upcoming figure. While I look forward to being able to buy a companion for the upcoming Rancor, was any consideration given instead to do any of the other rancor keepers present in Jabba's dungeon that have never been previously released?
