Sculpt:
Kit Fisto is a Nautolan Jedi whose ability to breathe underwater allows him to lead battles on watery worlds such as Mon Calamari and Kamino during the CLONE WARS. The sculpt is the Saga '03 CLONE WARS subset, and is based on the way Fisto was presented in the Cartoon Network's CLONE WARS micro-series, season one. Dark Horse Comics also popularized this image of the stripped-to-the-waist amphibious Jedi when he helped to defend the Clone Trooper cloning facilities on Kamino in their monthly STAR WARS: REPUBLIC title. It's a sculpt that stands up to just under four years of scrutiny, and gets him a total of 8 out of 10.
Paint:
Kit Fisto's head, arms, torso, and feet are molded in a light olive green plastic. The head has light brown and light green washes, with light green spots on his head tentacles. The eyes are a glossy dark gray. The tips of his tentacles are a flat dark gray. There are rust-colored paint decos to the bands that hold the tentacles together in bunches. The torso, arms, and feet have light green washes. The arms and feet have rust-colored paint applications to the wrappings on his forearms and the his foot bindings. His Jedi sash and skirt are molded in light tan, with medium brown, gold, and silver paint apps to the belt. His pelvis and legs are molded in medium brown, with a darker brown wash over his pants legs. The leather leggings at the bottom of each pants leg have rust paint apps with a tiny dot of silver deco on the metal tab. His lightsaber is molded in translucent green, with a silver paint app to the handle. 8.5/10.
Articulation:
This figure had a decidely odd articulation scheme in '03, and it's still odd today. His ball-jointed head is limited in range of motion by the head tentacles. Planer-cut shoulders, waist, and hips make him little more than a POTF2-grade figure. Yet, because he's supposed to be able to "swim," he has ball-jointed feet. If they had at least given him ball-jointed shoulders so his arms could do more than move up and down, giving him good lightsaber poses, it would have been great. Or, they could have given him planer joints at the places where his arm wrappings meet his arm, just below the elbows. As it stands, he only gets 6.5/10.
Accessories:
Character-specific figure stand and lightsaber. The stand is for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK instead of the generic STAR WARS logo used for Expanded Universe figures: 7/10.
Packaging:
The same The Saga Collection card as the rest of the series, with a character-specific background image--in this case, an exterior of the landing pad on Kamino. The insert image is a good medium shot of Kit from ATTACK OF THE CLONES, and has The Saga Collection logo to the right of the character image. The figure's name is just below TSC logo, with its collection number (Kit Fisto is Saga #055) just to the right. To the left are the five white-orange triangles, indicating the position of the enclosed mini-figure (although one triangle is partially obscured by Kit's lightsaber). The cardback features a small image of Kit (again, it looks like a shot from AOTC) that has been superimposed over the watery Kamino background, with text that explains his role in the Clone Wars, along with the diecut display area for the Exclusive Hologram Figure: 8.5/10.
Availability:
As of this writing, the figure has been appearing at retail for over a month and it sells out quickly and often; it is also available from most online sources: 7/10.
Conclusion:
This version of Kit Fisto hasn't been seen for almost four years. Part of the later CLONE WARS line release, a few collectors may have missed out on him (and Saesee Tiin) in 2003. There was no great outcry for his re-release, though, and we just had the ROTS Kit Fisto re-released in both "Greatest Battles" and the "Jedi vs. Darth Sidious" Battle Pack. What we really need is a Kit Fisto that can actually be seated in the Target-exclusive Kit Fisto Jedi Starfighter! 7.6/10.
