Sculpt:
The bounty-hunting baddie with the icy exterior, as first seen in the oft-reviled STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL. Aired once and then bannished to the void, only the animated segment (by Nelvana Studios, which later animated the DROIDS series) has escaped universal ridicule. In this sequence, Fett is intorduced as a seemingly friendly character to Luke, Han, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO. His appearance is quite different from what we'd eventually seen in live action two years later, in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The sculpt is a retooling of the 2004 Vintage Original Trilogy Collection Boba Fett. The problem is, the figure has far too much detail on it to be a fair representation of the animated version of Fett. His helmet and gauntlets should be smaller. His knee armor is just a tad too large, while his chest armor sits too low because the yolk across his shoulders sits too low. Also, Fett wore half-boots, with the legs of his flight suit tucked into the tops, and not the shoes he's normally seen wearing in the live-action costume. At least they got the blaster holster and pronged weapon right: 8 out of 10.

Paint:
Fett's helmet is molded in silver, with a metallic blue paint app to the main helmet, and a gloss black paint app to the T-visor. The range finder is unpainted. His flight suit is the same light gray as the cartoon, with his arms, legs, torso, and pelvis all cast in this color. His shoulder armor and yolk have a medium gray paint app, while his chest and back armor are painted a light yellow. A light silver wash has also been applied to the yellow areas. His gauntlets are a bright metallic blue, with a silver app to the hoses on his right gauntlet. (In the cartoon, the hoses were missing.) The Wookiee fur braids over his right shoulder are brown and tan, which seems consistent with the cartoon. His pelvic armor is the same medium gray as his shoulder armor. His holster is molded in a rusty brown, with gray and silver paint apps. His knee pads are the same yellow as his chest plates, minus the silver washes. His shoes are a light blue, with black soles and silver paint apps. His rocket pack is pale yellow, with white, silver, and black paint decos. His double-pronged staff is molded in tan, with a metallic copper paint app to the tip. His blaster is molded in black, and his softgoods cape is made from a medium brown. Overall, while there are some inaccuracies, it's a fair representation: 8/10.

Articulation:
His neck, shoulders, elbows, knees, and ankles are all ball-jointed. Both forearms have planer-cuts where the gauntlets start. His waist and hips also have standard planer-cut joints: 9/10.

Accessories:
Fett comes with a removable rocket pack, his blaster pistol, two-pronged weapon, and character-specific collectible coin: 8/10.

Packaging:
The new 30th Anniversary Collection card uses stylized "painted" imagery of the characters on the individual cards, with the new STAR WARS logo in stark white and cut in on an angle. It's a design that has divided collectors: you either love the new look or hate it! The film each figure comes from is at the bottom right edge of the card, while the character's number in the collection is on the blister insert. Boba Fett: Animated Debut is figure number 24. The cardback features an actual screen shot from THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, and has text that explains the character's role in it and a "Character Profile": 8.5/10

Availability:
As of this writing, the figure has been appearing at retail for about two months, and is available from various online sources. Fett is a very popular figure with both collectors and diorama-builders, and sells out quickly at retail. Customizers are also hot for this figure, to make fan-created Mandolorian characters of their own: 7/10.

Conclusion:
This has a pretty interesting curiosity factor with those who have never seen THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, even though many online video-sharing services at least have the animated segment featuring Fett. While the retooling of the VOTC Fett is decent and the articulation superior, a figure that was far more stylized, such as the CLONE WARS animated line figures from 2003-2004, might have been a better choice: 8.1/10.
