Sculpt:
Jawas are a species of roughly meter-sized humanoids, indigenous to the desert planet of Tatooine, as seen in A NEW HOPE. On the day a clan visited the Lars moisture farm, a Jawa unloaded a LIN demolition/mining droid, LIN-V8K, for consideration. Ultimately, the Larses bought the astromech R2-D2 and the protocol droid C-3PO. This is an all-new Jawa sculpt, and the first-ever version of the LIN-V8K droid. The Jawa is the first one with ball-joints, and also doesn't have light-pipe eyes. The LIN droid is slightly undersized, but has good detailing. The set rates an 8.5 out of 10.

Paint:
The figure's head, arms, torso, and lower robes are all molded in a medium brown. The face has a black paint app to the head wrappings that cover it, with bright yellow apps to the eyes. The head, arms, torso, and lower robes also have a brown wash over them, for weathering effect. The bandoleer is a medium ochre, with some tan paint apps for weathering. The vest is a medium tan, with no paint apps. The hands are molded in black, with no paint apps. The legs and feet are molded in medium gray, with no paint apps. The blaster and restraining bolt remote are both molded in black, with some silver decos to the remote. The LIN droid's frame is molded in light tan, with a predominantly gold color. There are black paint apps to the treads on the underside. The exposed interior mechanics have silver, copper, black, and red paint apps. The sensor stalk, mechanical arm, and antennas are molded in gunmetal gray, with white and silver paint apps to the sensor stalk. The dome covering is molded in dark translucent purple, with no paint apps: 8.5/10.

Articulation:
Ball-jointed neck, shoulders, and elbows. The wrists and waist are planer-cut joints. There is no hip articulation; the plastic robe would restrict the hip movement, anyway. The vest and bandoleer make the ball-jointed neck almost moot, as they severely restrict movement in that area. The LIN droid has a service arm jointed in two places, but the middle joint can come apart very easily and cause the upper arm to get lost: 7.5/10.

Accessories:
Blaster pistol, restraining bolt controller, removable bandoleer, removable vest, and a character-specific collector coin: 8.5/10.

Packaging:
The new 30th Anniversary Collection card uses painted imagery of the characters on the individual cards, with the new STAR WARS logo in stark white and cut in on an angle. It's a design that has divided collectors: you either love the new look or hate it! The film each figure comes from is at the bottom right edge of the card, while the character's number in the collection is on the blister insert. Jawa & LIN Droid from ANH are number nineteen. The cardfront is a painted image of the Jawa seen very early in the Sandcrawler scene at the Lars moisture farm. The cardback features a film shot of the Jawa attending to R5-D4, with Luke (Mark Hamill) looking over the LIN Droid. There's text that explains the characters' roles in ANH and a "Character Profile": 8.5/10.

Availability:
As of this writing, the figure has been appearing at retail for roughly a month. Surprisingly, it's a bigger seller than the Stormtrooper in this wave, although the McQuarrie Chewbacca is still the biggest seller in wave three. I must admit, I never thought there'd be Jawa army-builders! So, if you see this and want one, snag it now, as it likely won't be on the pegs later. It's also available from most online sources: 7.5/10.

Conclusion:
A very exciting rescult of the Jawa makes him very popular with both kids and collectors, and the added LIN droid is making him hot with droid collectors. Although the low availability and flismy arm joint on the LIN droid lowered his score a bit, this set is probably the best bang-for-your buck in wave three: 8.2/10.
