Sculpt:
Senator Padme Amidala, the target of several assassination attempts, returns to her homeworld of Naboo under the protection of Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker in ATTACK OF THE CLONES. During a quiet dinner, Anakin playfully steals a piece of fruit from the senator's plate. After dinner, beside a romantic fire, the fumbling teenager expresses his love for her ... a love he has cultivated since they first met a decade earlier. This is an all-new figure, one fans and collectors have been hoping to see for five years now! While the sculpting details sacrifice some articulation, this isn't a figure that readily lends itself to action poses, anyway. Hasbro still hasn't produced a 3 3/4" Padme figure that truly looks like actress Natalie Portman, this one actually looks fair in profile, and it rates an 8 out of 10.

Paint:
Padme's head, hands, legs, and torso are molded in light flesh. Her head has brown paint apps for her hair, eyebrows, and lashes. Her eyes are white, with black pupils. There is a dark brown wash over her hair. Her lips have a deep red paint app, and there are light rose-colored apps to her cheeks. There are silver paint decos to the metal headband she wears. Her torso has a black paint app to her bodice. Her hands have black paint apps to her fingerless gloves. Her legs have gray paint apps to her shoes, with black decos tp the straps on the shoes. Her arms, dress, shawl, and scarf are molded in black. The upper arms have flesh paint apps to the exposed skin of her shoulders. The scarf and dress have silver dry-brushing paint apps to simulate metallic accents. The drinking glass is molded in clear plastic: 8/10.

Articulation:
Ball-jointed neck, shoulders, and elbows. Planer-cut waist and wrists. Zero articulation from the waist down--basically, a "salt shaker," similar to the old POTF2 Emperor's Royal Guard figure: 7/10.

Accessories:
Drinking glass, removable shawl, removable scarf, and a character-specific collectible coin. 8/10.

Packaging:
The new 30th Anniversary Collection card uses stylized "painted" imagery of the characters on the individual cards, with the new STAR WARS logo in stark white and cut in on an angle. It's a design that initially had collectors divided: you either loved the new look or hated it! The film each figure comes from is at the bottom right edge of the card, while the character's number in the collection is on the blister insert. Padme Amidala is figure number 56, and she's from ATTACK OF THE CLONES. The cardback has a screen shot of Natalie Portman from this scene, and has text that explains the character's role and a "Character Profile": 8.5/10

Availability:
As of this writing, the figure has been appearing at retail for two months, and is also available from various online sources. It's still scarce in areas where wave 8 hasn't shipped in quantity. Many collectors have still not managed to find this one at retail, yet in other regions, it's already a pegwarmer: 7/10.

Conclusion:
While probably not a figure kids are racing to play with, collectors have been eagerly awaiting this Padme to be made. Between the disappointing limited articulation and Hasbro's continued inability to produce a really good facial likeness to Natalie Portman, this one could have held off awhile longer. It receives a mediocre rating of 7.8/10.
