Sculpt:
A pair of surly Super Battle Droids encounter Artoo-Deetoo in the lower decks of the Separatist flag ship Invisible Hand in the open scenes of REVENGE OF THE SITH. The hulking battle droids are no match for the spunky astromech droid, who squirts oil on them and uses his rocket boosters to immolate the duo. The sculpt is all-new, and the most detailed version of this Separatist killing machine yet. I'm just not thrilled by the holes in the upper torso that the flame accessories peg into, as it ruins the smoothness of the chest sculpt. 8 out of 10.

Paint:
The figure is molded in metallic blue-gray, and has a black paint wash to bring out details. There's a red paint app on the left side of the upper torso ... and, that's it. That's all there is to a Super Battle Droid, folks. 8/10.

Articulation:
Super Battle Droid gets an articulation upgrade: ball-jointed shoulders and torso, planer-cut hips, jointed elbows with swivels, and jointed knees. There's no head articulation, because we've never seen a SBD move it's head in the films, period: 8.5/10.

Accessories:
Super Battle Droid comes with removable "flame" effect that connect to the torso and left leg, and a character-specific collector coin. The "flame" also attaches to the R2-D2 figure (TAC #04): 8.5/10.

Packaging:
The new 30th Anniversary Collection card uses painted imagery of the characters on the individual cards, with the new STAR WARS logo in stark white and cut in on an angle. It's a design that has divided collectors: you either love the new look or hate it! The film each figure comes from is at the bottom right edge of the card, while the character's number in the collection is on the blister insert. Super Battle Droid from ROTS is figure number 8. The cardback features a film shot of a burning Super Battle Droid, and has text that explains the character's role in ROTS and a "Character Profile": 8.5/10.

Availability:
As of this writing, the figure has appeared at retail for six months, and while it initially sold well, it's become yet another wave 1 pegwarmer. It's also available from most online sources: 8.5/10.

Conclusion:
This SBD is a definite improvement in articulation and sculpt, but it isn't the neutral, basic version that fans have been hoping for: 8.3/10.
