Sculpt:
As the primary focus of both the Prequel Trilogy and the CLONE WARS micro-series, I was expecting a bit more from the Anakin figure in this line. Anakin strikes a rather bland pose, almost as if he's bored with all the hype surrounding himself! His feet are far apartr, but his thighs are almost touching--isn't that painful? His left arm hangs rather limply at his side, while his right arm is bent at the elbow, all the better to display his robotic forearm and hand. The only problem is the arm of his tunic is pulled back so far, but not enough material is "bunched up" to explain that much of his arm showing. It's almost as if he's wearing a remaindered Jedi tunic that has one arm shorter than the other. His facial expression appears more annoyed than "brooding," and he's been given some sort of Vanilla Ice-wannabe hairstyle, minus the Padawan mini-ponytail, although he still has the Padawan braid. (The funny thing I've noticed about almost every Anakin action figure, including this one, is that they display a greater emotional range than Hayden Christensen ever did in AOTC!) His thin ankles don't support his weight well, so he tends to lean a bit too far forward. He gets an uneventful 7 out of 10.

Paint:
Anakin favors a dark brown-hued Jedi tunic and pants, with a medium gray shirt beneath them. Like Obi-Wan, his sandy hair is represented by an orangey paint, and his eyes are a deep blue. His bronze-colored robotic arm is molded in a yellow plastic. My sample had a brown thumbprint on the back of his right hand from a careless painter at the Hasbro factory: 7.5 /10.

Articulation:
Anakin sports the most articulation of any figure in the first wave of this line: neck, both shoulders, waist, and right forearm planer-cuts, for a total of five. I still think it was a big mistake to not have any of these figures articulated below the waist, and nowhere is this more apparent than with the Anakin figure: 7 /10.

Accessories:
Included is Anakin's lightsaber and a STAR WARS: CLONES WARS-logo figure stand. The lightsaber blade is in transparent light blue, with little starbursts at the bottom that were part of CLONE WARS micro-series' Art Director Paul Rudish's early design sketches, but were later abandoned in favor of the more traditional straight, white blades with a colored halo surrounding them. An average 8 /10.

Packaging:
The blistercard sports the same cartoon-inspired logo as the rest of the figures in this line, with a pretty decent image of Anakin on the die-cut insert: 8.5 /10.

Availability:
I'm still seeing plenty of these at Target, a full month after their December 2003 release, and in some areas Anakin will be the only figure left on the pegs next to Mace Windu: 9 /10.

Conclusion:
Animated Anakin looks like his CLONE WARS micro-series counterpart, which can almost be considered a caricature of the actor playing him in Episodes II and III. While he's not the most exciting figure in the line, he comes in at an honest 7.8 /10.
