Sculpt:
Astromech droid Artoo-Detoo is looking as lovely as ever, even if he's covered with swamp muck from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Part of the OTC's "Dagobah wave," this R2 is a mess, but he's supposed to be that way!. Because of the figure's electronics, the sculpt is simple, but still fairly accurate. At least Hasbro didn't try to recycle the SAGA '03 Droid Factory Flight figure's mold here: 8 out of 10.

Paint:
Molded in white, the figure has the usual R2-D2 paint apps -- silver, blue, light metallic blue, and copper. Added to this is a fairly heavy application of brown "mud," although it's just a tad too heavy to be considered just a detail-adding "wash." The connectors for his hinged "feet" are molded in a light brown plastic. His Dagobah swamp base is molded in medium brown, then painted a darker brown. Overall, 5 paint colors are used on this figure: 8/10.

Articulation:
The figure's electronics mean that no dome articulation was possible. The legs and feet are typical planer-cut joints, and the button that controls his sound feature pushes in. There is a removable button-cell battery compartment cover on the rear, held in place by a small metal screw. 7/10.

Accessories:
Artoo comes with the same Dagobah base as Spirit Obi-Wan and Yoda. Because the figure is electronic, it also comes with an insert sheet on how to change the batteries and who to call in case you should decide to eat the batteries (surprisingly, it's not Jerry Springer): 8/10.

Packaging:
The same OTC card as the rest of the series, with a character-specific background image--in this case, Dagobah, with Luke's mired X-wing fighter prominent. There is a "Try me!" sticker on the blister to demo the sound feature. The insert shows a muck-encrusted R2, and has the logo for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK on the far right flange, then the figure's name and OTC collection number (R2 is OTC #04) on the right flange. The cardback shows a different image of a filthy R2, and explains the two-stage sound activation button (depress quickly for random beeps, press and hold for electronic "scream"): 8.5/10.

Availability:
As of this writing, the figure has been appearing at retail for about a month, and is also available from most online sources: 8/10.

Conclusion:
It's hard to balance the merits of limited articulation with electronic sound effects, and this version of Artoo does a passable job of it: 7.9/10.
