Sculpt:
Queen Amidala as seen in the final Naboo freedom celebration scenes from THE PHANTOM MENACE. The young queen is quite regal in a white gown with a large, lacy cape with ornate collar. The sculpt is very faithful to the costume, and the likeness to actress Natalie Portman is decent, if not perfect. The large cape is removable. 8 out of 10.

Paint:
The figure's body and arms are molded in white. The yellow and orange pattern down the front is painted on, as are the flesh tones of her hands, neck and chest. Her legs are molded in flesh, with her shoes and underwear applied in white. Her head is molded in light flesh, with her hair painted brown. The ornamental head jewelry is painted silver, as are the pins in her hair. Her cheeks and lips have the Naboo queen's traditional make-up (cheek dots, upper lip and lower lip "scar of remembrance") applied in a rose color. Her cape is a translucent pink, with a pearlescent white applied to the collar. The Globe of Peace is pearlesent white, with metallic blue energy veins on the surface and a silvery "brain" in the center. The queen's facial colorings are incorrect: actress Natalie Portman wore the traditional white-face make-up in this scene, with the deep-red make-up on her cheeks and lips that the queen wears throughout the film (except when posing as the handmaiden Padme, of course). 7.5/10.

Articulation:
A disappointing lack of articulation on this figure. While the head is ball-jointed, there is only standard planer-cut joints at the shoulders and her left elbow. No joints at the hips or waist, period. 6/10.

Packaging:
The same 2005 Transitional card as the rest of the series, with a character-specific background image--in this case, a Theed Palace courtyard shot. The insert image is a nice close-up shot of Natalie Portman, and has the logo for THE PHANTOM MENACE on the far left flange, then the figure's name and 2005 collection number (Queen Amidala is '05 #4) on the right flange. The cardback is a production still of Portman in the costume, and has text that explains the Naboo celebration from TPM's ending: 8/10.

Conclusion:
This version of Queen Amidala is one that collectors have been begging Hasbro for since the earliest days of the EPISODE I lines. It had been hoped that she'd appear in the POTJ line, when Hasbro was really gearing things towards collectors. Now that she has finally been put into this 2005 Transitional line, the figure is still a welcome addition to a year that has been sorely lacking in Prequel Trilogy goods, but the figure itself is a letdown. We know Hasbro could have done better, but now that they've done the character, it's doubtful a better version will be made anytime soon: 7.3/10.
