Sculpt:
Hem Dazon was a patron at the Mos Eisley cantina frequented by Han Solo and Chewbacca, and was a mute witness to a confrontation between bar thugs Dr. Evazon and Ponda Baba and young farm boy Luke Skywalker in A NEW HOPE. This dangerous Arconan smuggler goes back to his business once the trouble ends. This puppet character was the very first alien creature to appear on-screen in the famous cantina sequence of the film. The character has never been made as a figure in any past STAR WARS toy line, and is a welcome addition to the growing list of cantina aliens. The sculpt is highly-detailed, although only the character’s head was ever seen on-screen. There is some debate amongst collectors about the character’s triple-jointed legs, saying the design is too exotic for the make-up effects limitations of ANH. But, Lak Sivrak was given a similar design in the POTF2 collection, and no one ever complained. The concept works just fine for the OT, and it rates a 9.5 out of 10.

Paint:
The figure’s head, forearms, and feet are molded in the rusty brown color of his skin. They are then given a medium gray wash. The head has a gold paint decoration for the eyes, then an additional application of metallic light green for the pupils. The torso, upper arms, pelvis, and legs are molded in a medium blue. The shoulders have a burgundy paint app to the armor, and the ball-joints are molded in that same color. The arms have a gray deco at the sleeves, and the left bicep has a black deco with gray details on a thin band. The torso has a gray paint app at the shoulders and neck, where the flight suit has a yoke. The belt and holster are molded in gray, with black strips, brown pouches, and silver accents. The legs have the same gray accents at the bottom of the pants as the sleeves and yoke, and there are black straps on his bare, tridactyl feet. Overall, a very detailed, paint job that merits a 9/10.

Articulation:
Ball-jointed neck, and shoulders. The wrists, ankles, hips, and waist are planer-cut joints, while the elbows are angle-cut. He can hold his drinking glass in one or two hands, and is basically rather limber for an incidental character: 8.5/10.

Packaging:
The same The Saga Collection card as the rest of the series, with a character-specific background image--in this case, the bar area of the Mos Eisley cantina. The insert image is a nice close-up shot of Dazon, and has The Saga Collection logo to the right of the character image. The figure’s name is just below TSC logo, with its collection number (Hem Dazon is Saga #033) just to the right. To the left are the five white-orange triangles, indicating the position of the enclosed mini-figure. The cardback features a small film image of Hem Dazon, with text that explains his role in ANH, along with the diecut display area for the Exclusive Hologram Figure: 8.5/10.

Conclusion:
Considering Hem Dazon was the first cantina alien ever seen in ANH, this figure is long overdue. It also gives hardcore creature fans hopes for other, obscure aliens being made into figures, such as Hermie Odle and Yarna d’al Gargan. It's an all-new sculpt, and comes with decent accessories, giving it a final score of 8.4/10.
